Ciaran Tully

He fell in love with New York in 1990 and has come to
appreciate the city, the photographs he takes are of iconic places. He uses a
mixture of sharp and soft focuses and composition to get an interesting
photograph.
What interests me about Tullys work is the way that the light
is the dominant factor no matter how subtle or bold. It can be from street
light or natural but it all comes together to form a piece that can either be tranquil
or creepy. Also what drew me to his work is that it has aspects of layering and
distortion which links with my work. He manages to create an almost 3D feel as multiple
things are repeated off centre or that there is a focus on one aspect but the
rest of the image is deformed to make the audience focus. From looking at his work there looks to be many layers to distort the image and this is something that I could do within my own work instead of just layering one acetate piece over the top.
