Why Do We Need A Studio?
A studio is an area for an artist to work, space to create, develop and display artwork and storage for art materials so that it is all in the same place. It is a separate area just to focus on art, space to work in a comfortable environment that allows you to move and evaluate what you have done. It is practice for displaying and setting up work, and a chance to evaluate the artwork. The size of the space depends on what media the artist is working in, such as photographer will have a small space as they don’t have large equipment. Whereas painters and sculptors will need a larger space as then they have the opportunity to work on a bigger scale and have more of a variation of equipment that would need to be stored. Also location will affect the size of studio due to price and how long the waiting list is. Group studios can create inspiration and ideas. All studios need to be kept tidy and organised to reduce risk of injury and damage to work.
