Two Queen Gallery

I visited a local art gallery, Two Queens on the 11^th October 2013, who was opening a sculpture exhibition. It was the first time that I have visited this gallery, and found that there were plenty of space to move around the artwork and you are able to take a look at it at all angles. The way it was displayed one piece did not dominate the whole room. There were diverse pieces, from film to large sculptures. It made me think about what I need to do when presenting my own work and making it appealing and get a reaction from the audience.

A piece that stood out to me was artist Iain Hales ‘Rude Girl’ this was due to the size of the artwork. The way it was presented allows it to be seen straight on as well as being able to look up and down at it; it allowed me to get up close to the piece and look at it in detail. He used two contrasting colours, gold and black together in one piece yet managed to bring out each colour individually instead of them blending together. This is due to the fact that the shape is different for each colour as well as the opposite material that each object was made in, one tile and one wire. I have learnt that the way you position more than one object together is important as they must have a connection and the way they attach is key as it allows the artwork to flow together. Personally the simplicity of the piece made it attracting and the size, it was not too overwhelming.
