What is Art?

CPS

What is Art?

One of the sessions on the Fine Art degree course is Contextual and Professional Studies, known as CPS. We were given the question of ‘What is Art?’ we each gave  our views, this then started a discussion and debate on whether there is a right or wrong answer on what art is.

I think art is an expression of an individual’s imagination or interpretation, has the ability to communicate using visual language and can receive a reaction from the audience both positive and negative; it makes the audience think and question. I also researched what other artist’s ideas on what art is, painter Wassily Kandinsky says “There is no must in art because art is free”. Edgar Degas said “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Everyone’s views, opinions and thoughts about the question and art itself are different yet correct. There is no right answer.
