What is most interesting about Longs work is the fact of how realistic the animal is, this is managed by the nature, size and overall appearance of the animal. Even though the viewer can see through the animal you are still able to understand all the features and body structure of the rhino. As it is made of scrap metal it makes the viewer question what else can be created and what scrap can be certain areas, like a spanner for a tail or a nail for an eye. The piece itself is powerful due to the size and the natural colour of the metal. The lack of colour makes an earthy, rustic however the splash of red in the rhinos horn shows the power a rhino has and that it is a dangerous animal.

What I have learnt is by using the natural colour of a material can change the whole dynamics of a sculpture, even if that colour is boring and dark, using natural colours can add depths and power to the sculpture. Even when all the pieces do not fit together people are still able to understand what the sculpture should be of, but it makes the surrounding become part of the piece.
