He began working with ceramics before he decided that working with water was more interesting along with metalwork. His worked is based on simple beauty that creates energy that is interesting. He wants to make something beautiful yet useful that fits into its surrounding. He uses water as it is an element that can either be dramatic or calming.

What I find interesting about Rayners work is that not only is it a sculpture it is a fuctional piece of art. The organic colour of the metal makes it look as if the sculpture has been there for years and that it has aged where as the flowers around it are just coming back to life. The pattern of this sculpture reminds me of the waves in the water relating to the fact that it is a water feature. It has made me think about how to work with the environment and that the sculpture does not have to be just a sculpture, it can be practical as well.
