Simon Beck.

Simon Beck

(Drawing Project)

The snow patterns are made by Beck wearing snowshoes, and he uses a compass to create them but finds his work the reverse of orienteering.

What interested me about Beck’s artwork is the fact that he uses a material that will not sustain and in the morning will no longer be there, only photographic evidence will ever existed. He uses his feet to make the marks and each step is accurately decided and calculated before he moves to produce a pattern that is mesmerising. I have learnt that precision is important because if he made a mistake there is no way to correct it. Even thought he only really uses one colour it is still affective due to the tones and marks used and it is not in your face, the pattern is subtle.
