Style:
Cubism and futurism this is due to the extended lines and angles.
Artist has Said
As a
practicing artist my work is of new and traditional and the outcome is on
our disorientation of the environment.
It
raises the question about how far we can observe at any given moment.
Drawing
is a map of time, recording the actions of the maker allows the viewer to move
through the journey of creation.

Why I choose and
was Interested in this Drawing
What
drew me to this piece was the darkness that came across; it is a dark space, an
area that you just do not want to be in. To me it resembles death, this is due
to the angle of the people, and they are lying on the floor or falling.
He
continues lines this gives a scratchy texture and a sense of harshness. Yet
there is something that draws you in, its hypnotic, I think that this is due to
the fact that everything starts from the center and works its way out,
capturing you.

The Reasons the
Drawing was Made
Rodgers
wanted to show a sense of what a city can do to people, the rush. The amount of
people there are is overwhelming to a person, there is too much to take in. The
city is trapping you, drawing you in. He
wants the audience to feel within this.
Also
that times are changing, everything is getting faster, it should be viewed as
well as experienced.

What I Think the
Artist Wanted the Drawings to be Used For
I
think that the artist wanted the to display the power a city has, that they are
bold and strong, this is from the bold lines and darkness of the image. Yet can
be overpowering, I think it shows the negativity of a city.
How was the
Drawing was Made
Downtown
Montreal, Canada, was
made with pen and ink on paper as he finds that he can work fast in order to
get a flow down and can press down hard to engage the viewer to practice the
process of looking.
He
can build up layers and the viewer can interpret the image.
Recently
he has began to work on hand tablets, as he is then able to draw anywhere at
anytime just using one tool. However there is limit scale to using it.

Is the Drawing
Made From Observation?
He
travels to all the cities that are in his drawings, he sketches on location, and
he uses photos as a reference when in his studio.
As a traveller he likes to observe and study the structures of the cities.

Is There Context
for the Drawing?
Drawing
allows you to discover that landscapes that we see today change and alter. He
wants to show the disorientation and fragmentation elements that can be found
in buildings and the surrounding environments.
