2nd Year Fine Art Show. Adam Rattigan.

2nd Year Fine Art Show.

Adam Rattigan.

The artist which inspired and made me think how to progress my own work the most was Adam Rattigan. This is because of the way that he merges two images together, you know that this is not the correct combination but it works and it is comical. It is obvious that he digital edited them to create these pieces but to me that does not matter as the images have a strong impact due to the focus and the manipulation is done very well. The paper that the images were printed on is high class and this makes it look professional, also along with the composition, location and how clear the images are. The photographs work well in black and white as I find it adds more depth, it is subtle and the eye focuses on the main aspect instead of being distracted by colour, I feel colour would have engulfed the person/monkey not making it as prominent therefore not having a strong impact. He also showed back up work with the final prints that were on the same standard and was bound together to make it look appealing.

I think that the work is interesting as he works with the environment, and this is just as important as the person. He has experimented with different animals but I find the monkey the most appealing as we act like monkeys sometimes and they act like us, there are similar qualities. To me at first glance looks like someone has dressed a monkey but then you realize that it has human features. The images themselves are quite large but I find that to be the right size as its big enough to see the detail but not to big to be in your face. It has made me think about how to merge two images together to form a new one and when Photoshop is done correctly it can make an interesting piece.
